The Pros and Cons of Teaching English Worldwide

English teachers are in demand everywhere. No wonder that many teachers opt for teaching abroad instead of working in any small local school. English is the leading language, and one of the most spoken languages globally, so more and more people are willing to learn it. Obtaining language skills on one’s own requires a lot of time and good motivation, but only a handful of people have it. Sometimes it’s possible to trust some tasks to professional writers from academic assistance site, but having a mentor or teacher is better.
If you have solid language knowledge and proper qualification, you may consider the opportunity to work as an English teacher abroad. But before signing a contract, you have to explore the advantages and disadvantages of this profession, weigh it, and take the final decision.

The Pros

Here are the positive sides of working as a teacher in a foreign country:
• High wages. Your earnings depend on the destination country you choose, but in most cases, organizations that hire English teachers offer them decent salaries. • • Compared with teachers’ salaries in your country, this job opportunity will seem attractive.
• New acquaintances. Besides your students, you meet and communicate with other teachers that lets you have like-minded people to talk to in free time, share experience, and make connections for further cooperation.
• Unknown culture. Working abroad means seeing new places and getting acquainted with a new culture. You might have already read about it, but nothing compares to real-life experience.
• New experience. Teaching English abroad differs from teaching it in your home country, so you not only become a better teacher by merely teaching this subject, but also by implementing specific techniques and gaining new experience.
• Good career contribution. Having such an experience can do good for your further job. Many employers prefer hiring those who have TESOL/TEFL certificates.

The Cons

• You get homesick. No matter how much you love your job and how much you want to live abroad, you’ll start being homesick at some point of your life abroad. • Inability to spend at least a few days with your family can depress you.
• It’ll be hard at first. People who teach English abroad do it in countries where students almost don’t know it. In most cases, these students enter foreign colleges, can’t cope with the tasks and order them from such services as speedy paper. Be ready that you’ll need to get a basic knowledge of local language.
• No career development. Unlike other occupations, English teachers, especially those working abroad can’t progress. If you hope that this job opportunity will give you any career advancement, forget about it.
• You’ll feel lonely. Even though you meet lots of new people, they won’t be able to replace your good old friends and your family. Therefore, video calls are all you can hope for.
• You’ll spend time. Teaching English worldwide isn’t the option you can cancel at any moment. You usually sign a contract for 1 year and must spend it in this country, teaching English to students and it can be daunting.
