Job Guidance

We recognize that the principal reason you’re considering taking a TEFL course is because you probably wish to work abroad teaching English, either immediately after completing the course or some time in the future.

As such, helping you to secure a job is also one of our principal concerns and an area in which we are continually investing time and effort. During the course you will be offered:

  • Training sessions on the various aspects of job seeking relevant to a new teacher: adapting your resume/CV for EFL teaching, the EFL job interview process and techniques, and an information session about the EFL world in general and the various opportunities open to you, in the EFL world.
  • A one-to-one interview with a job guidance counselor at the school in order to ascertain your wishes and preferences regarding employment after the course and follow up interviews to discuss progress made.
  • A list of schools (upon request) for any city or area in which you are interested in working.
  • Expert assistance in finding a teaching position, both during and after the completion of the course.
  • Professional references from your course tutors on request at any time-
  • "Job Hunters" who do most of the leg work on of the job search for you, finding open teaching positions, contacting schools, and setting up initial interviews with schools around the world, practically guaranteeing you a job by the time you are finished with the course.

Throughout the course trainees are advised on resume and cover letter writing, as well as on interviewing techniques; they are also provided with contact information for schools in the region where they are interested in teaching and connected with othe Via Lingua centers for region help in the job search.

LIVING AND WORKING IN MEXICO

One of the great advantages of doing a TEFL training with us, and obtaining the internationally recognized and valued Via Lingua certificate, is that it is possible to travel and find work all over the world.

However, many of our students, after the experience of being with us in Mexico, choose to stay, live and work in Mexico.

During and after the Via Lingua TEFL Program with us, we offer our students the following:

  • Help with finding work in Mexico, both in the immediate region, through our excellent local contacts in schools in the area, and nationally, through the extensive network we have of over six hundred schools through various States in Mexico, where we can put our trainees in direct contact with EFL Coordinators and Principals, thus ensuring interviews for an ELT position.
  • Help with finding work internationally, through our own contacts and access to Via Lingua’s international job-placement service.
  • Our expertise and assistance with the necessary formalities to obtain visas in order to work and live in Mexico
  • Ongoing support and membership of our network of past students.

More specifically, during the Program:

  • There will be an ‘Orientation Session’ the Friday of the first week of the course, where each participant will elaborate his / her own Curriculum Vitae (C.V.), and receive feedback from trainers.
  • In this session, participants will indicate in which country or countries they would be interested in working, so that we can do the follow-up during the course and be able to provide specific educational centers where the candidate can establish his / her contact(s).
  • We also offer students the option of a number of sessions based on life skills and personal goal planning. In this way students gain clarity about their career direction and what they are looking for in life, so their work as a TEFL teacher helps them achieve these life goals.
  • At the latest, by the fourth week of the course, our trainees will have the information they need to be able to establish their own contacts, within Mexico or the country of their choice, as the skills and wherewithal to procure an ELT position for themselves at any point in their TEFL career.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

You do not need a visa to attend the TEFL courses with TEFL Training Mexico. On arrival in Mexico, visitors should request a tourist visa for the length of their stay.  It is common for immigration officials to give visitors three months or more if asked for upon arrival.

If your travel visa was to expire while on the course, our experience staff is well vested the ins and outs of Mexican immigration and would be more than happy to help you renew your tourist visa for the required length of time.

All trainees will be informed of work regulations, rights, and visa requirements while working in Mexico during their course. If at any time you have a question about the process, whether during or after your course, you can always feel free to contact us and we will be happy to asses your situation to the best of our ability.
